Master project Nuevo35

The project management team supports the mentors and coordinates the issues and topics of the individual teams. The tasks include controlling the entire project, designing the external presentation and ensuring the implementation of the project goals.

The "Design & Rollout" team works together with students from the Faculty of Design to create the bodywork. The focus here is on the exchange with the designers and the other teams in order to meet the requirements for the bodywork. The team's task is also to plan an event for the presentation of the Nuevo 35.

The "Quality Management and Production" team supports the master's project by standardizing and systematizing the project work and by manufacturing and procuring components and assemblies. They also define possible errors in order to prevent them.

The Chassis team deals with the design of the chassis. This includes, for example, rigidity studies, which are carried out using FEM calculations. The team is also responsible for safety. Crash simulations are carried out in which different load cases are tested.

The CO₂ team's tasks include creating and developing a dynamic CO₂ model of the Nuevo35 vehicle in Mathworks Matlab/Simulink. The CO₂ emissions are considered over the entire life cycle, including the production of the vehicle and recycling. Raising awareness and consulting with the other teams are part of the tasks.

The gas engine conversion team has the task of converting the combustion engine from petrol to hydrogen. In order to achieve this goal, extensive research and contact with companies and manufacturers is essential.

The electrics and electronics team is responsible for testing and installing the electronic components. The design of the sensors, the definition of the test scenarios and the correct cabling are just a small part of the team's tasks.

The Overall System Integration team is responsible for the entire vehicle and the associated overall CAD model. The tasks include merging the CAD files from all teams. Regular consultation with the teams, documentation of the connection points and proposed solutions for the function of the overall vehicle are also part of the tasks.

The Cooling and Integration team currently consists of nine students. Five students are in the second semester and four in the first semester of the Master's degree courses. This team is supervised by Prof. Dr. Vincent Marciniak.

Team Longitudinal Dynamics is developing a hybrid strategy model in Matlab Simulink and CarMaker, in which an intelligent control of the engines is developed. The team's task is to design a CO₂-minimized operating strategy for the vehicle and validate it in the simulation.

Since 2020, the limit value of 95 grams of CO2 per kilometer has been in force in Germany, based on driving alone. The value of 35 grams of CO2 per kilometer for the hybrid "Nuevo 35", on the other hand, refers to the entire life cycle, i.e. including the production of the vehicle, electricity and fuel and disposal.

The aim of the project is to implement a vehicle platform in the existing Master's degree courses "Mechanical Engineering" and "Vehicle Development". The background to the project is to provide students with the specialist skills, methodological skills and social skills that form the basis of professional success through research-based teaching. The final vehicle should be optimally designed in terms of its impact on people and the environment. This includes production, use including maintenance, but also recycling and disposal. In addition to teaching, the research objective is also to present a sustainable concept for mobility.

The students design and develop the vehicle from scratch. The life cycle assessment of CO2 emissions plays an important role from the outset. Other decisive factors include safety, sustainability and technical feasibility. The vehicle is initially equipped with an electric drive. The installation of the combustion engine and its conversion to regenerative fuels are the next steps.
