The Bachelor's program

The Bachelor's degree is the first professional qualification in the tiered system.

It enables students to start a career directly or to continue their studies and - even after a period of employment - to obtain a Master's degree as a further professional qualification.

The standard period of study at Fachhochschule Dortmund varies between 6 and 12 semesters, depending on the study program and type of study.

Admission requirements are the university of applied sciences entrance qualification, the Abitur or a previous education recognized as equivalent and, if applicable, special enrolment requirements. These may include, for example, the following requirements:

Bachelor qualification

Eligible to study at the University of Applied Sciences:

the certificate of general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur)
the university of applied sciences entrance qualification or
an equivalently recognized previous education.

The following certificates, for example, only entitle you to study in conjunction with proof of practical experience:

13 school years/G9

12 school years/G8

the leaving certificate for year 12 of a grammar school upper level

completed vocational training or a one-year guided internship
( → practical part of the university of applied sciences entrance qualification)

the leaving certificate from year 11 of an upper secondary school
( → school-based part of the university of applied sciences entrance qualification)

completed vocational training or a one-year guided internship
( → practical part of the university of applied sciences entrance qualification)

Vocational school

the final certificate of a two-year vocational school
( → school-based part of the university of applied sciences entrance qualification)

the requirements listed in the certificate
( → practical part of the university of applied sciences entrance qualification)

In any case, the qualification note in the certificate is decisive.

Special feature:

Pupils who entered the upper secondary school after six years of education at grammar schools and comprehensive schools up to the 2010/2011 school year and left school at the end of year 11 have the opportunity to acquire the academic part of the university of applied sciences entrance qualification by transferring to year 12. In addition, the practical part of the university of applied sciences entrance qualification is recognized for these year groups with proof of at least two years of completed vocational training in accordance with federal or state law. In addition to North Rhine-Westphalia, this regulation also applies to the federal states of Lower Saxony, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saarland. Cf. German and foreign applicants who have not obtained their university entrance qualification or their university degree at a German-speaking institution must provide proof of their German language skills in addition to their university entrance qualification.
