Fachhochschule Dortmund makes it official: its partnership with the French UPJV in Amiens was put on a new footing on November 25 with a Memorandum of Understanding. This will benefit students, lecturers and researchers alike. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the UPJV as well as representatives of the City of Amiens and the City of Dortmund as part of the 65th anniversary of Dortmund's twinning with Amiens. >> More(Opens in a new tab)

International conference on sustainable global transformation with partners from South Africa and Zimbabwe
Joining forces to drive development towards global sustainability: For two days, representatives from science, practice, society and politics discussed how this can be achieved at Fachhochschule Dortmund. both Faculty of Applied Social Studies - International guest lecture "Mapping as Method. Stakeholders and Power in the Cartographies of Social Interventions" at the Faculty of Applied Social Studies
Dr. Nelson Arellano-Escudero, Universidad de Chile, Santiago, was a guest at the Faculty of Applied Social Studies on October 17. He gave a lecture on mapping as a central method for analyzing social interventions.(Opens in a new tab) He highlighted how cartographic approaches help to identify key actors, relationships and power structures that shape the dynamics of welfare, community development and social policy. In addition, Dr. Nelson Arellano was connected live from Chile every week as part of two seminars in the Social Work study program, in which students were able to discuss social work topics from an international comparative perspective.

Faculty of Applied Social Studies - (Late) Summer School "Social Work, legal advice, incarceration and health" at the Facultyof Applied Social Studies
The focus of the Summer School from September 26 to 27 at the Faculty of Applied Social Studies was to compare and explore the possibilities of cooperation between social work and legal advice. International speakers on the first day included Riolia Mascarenhas from India, currently a German Chancellor Fellow at Fachhochschule Dortmund, and Johanna Elumn, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Yale University. The program of the second day included a presentation of Elumn's research work on trauma resulting from medical treatment in prison and a subsequent discussion on the situation in the USA, particularly at universities.

- Japanese art professors visit the Faculty of Design
Two representatives from the renowned Seikei University in Osaka visited the Faculty of Design at Fachhochschule Dortmund in mid-October 2025. There they signed a Memorandum of Understanding as an important step towards long-term cooperation. Their stay in Dortmund was a return visit to the visit by Prof. Lioudmila Voropai and Prof. Andreas Pawlitzki. A first joint project is already being planned: an interdisciplinary workshop entitled "Noise - Silence in Everybody's Life" is expected to take place in the summer semester of 2026 with students from both universities. >> More(Opens in a new tab)

both Faculty of Design - Visit from the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek to the Faculty of Information Technology
As part of the ERASMUS+ program, a team from the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, Croatia, visited the Faculty of Information Technology from 22 to 26 September. During the meeting, there was an intensive exchange about existing and future opportunities for cooperation in both teaching and research. Discussions focused on joint teaching formats, mobility programs and potential research projects.

Review: Cooperation and research trips by UAS lecturers and students
- University visits and technology summit in India
A delegation from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts traveled to India in mid-November 2025 to deepen existing strategic collaborations and pave new paths for exchange. In addition to university visits to the National Institute of Engineering and the PSG College of Technology, the main items on the agenda were the co-organization of the "9th International Conference on Computational Systems and Information Technology for Sustainable Solutions" at the RV College of Engineering, participation in Asia's largest technology event, the "Bengaluru Tech Summit", and a visit to the URH Language Academy in Bangalore, which cooperates with Fachhochschule Dortmund. >> More (Opens in a new tab)

The DAAD-funded "StartINGFuture" project at Fachhochschule Dortmund is expanding its international school partnerships: Following initial partnerships in Poland and Slovakia, a third school has been added with the Colegiul Național Ion Luca Caragiale in Bucharest. Project coordinator Jan Schmieder kicked off the collaboration in April. The cooperation in Romania was initiated by an on-site visit by Thilo Groll in October 2025. The next highlight is scheduled for January 2026: International students from Poland, Slovakia and Romania will visit Fachhochschule Dortmund as part of a study trip and find out more about the faculties on site during the Dortmund University Days. >> More(Opens in a new tab)

At the beginning of the winter semester 2025/26, Prof. Dr. Ute Fischer traveled to the University of Gävle, Sweden, with UAS students as part of a seminar in the Master's degree course in Social Sustainability and Demographic Change to examine the Swedish and German welfare state models in an international comparison of welfare state research. The consistently positive feedback from both sides leads us to expect further cooperation activities, be it a return visit to Germany, joint Master's theses or future research projects in international comparison. >> More(Opens in a new tab)

Faculty of Applied Social Studies - DAAD Fact Finding Mission to Ghana
From September 21 to 27, Prof. Schultz-Fölsing, Prof. Fülscher and Anne Krainz (all Faculty of Architecture) were on a DAAD Fact Finding Mission to Kumasi and Accra. The aim of the trip was to explore opportunities for cooperation with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the city of Kumasi and other non-university institutions. At KNUST, the delegation visited the International Programs Office and the Faculty of Architecture, among others. There they were also able to view a current project on the subject of clay construction and traditional building materials. After a reception with the mayor of Kumasi, there were meetings in Accra with the DAAD, the German Embassy and the NRW-Ghana University Alliance, among others. A summer school in Dortmund with KNUST lecturers is now being planned for 2026.

all Faculty of Architecture - Special Session at the European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO) 2025
Dr. Fei, Faculty of Information Technology, moderated as Session Chair at the 33rd "European Signal Processing Conference" from September 8 to 12, 2025 in Palermo. Together with Co-Chair Prof. Shunqiao Sun, University of Alabama, he led the special session "Radar Sensing for Autonomous Vehicles". The session presented current developments in vehicle sensing, including beamspace signal processing, micro-Doppler simulations for pedestrians and AI-assisted radar imaging.

Current studies and news on internationalization
- Switzerland participates in "Horizon Europe" and other important EU research and innovation programs
The European Union and Switzerland have signed the agreement on Switzerland's participation in the "Horizon Europe" and "Digital Europe" programs as well as the Euratom program for research and education. The agreement on Switzerland's participation in European Union programs is part of a broader package aimed at consolidating, deepening and expanding relations between the EU and Switzerland. The CHE has published current data on exchange partnerships between German universities. The analysis shows that European countries such as Spain, France and Italy are among the most frequent partners of German universities and UAS.
