Scientific foundation and strategic orientation
The Faculty of Business Studies works application-, practice- and future-oriented. Following this guideline, the curriculum is internationally oriented and scientifi-cally grounded. In order to ideally prepare our students for working in the profes-sional world, we are teaching essential knowledge, even beyond the specialist skills.
The focal points are strategically chosen so that by the end of your studies, you will have acquired qualifications that can be used in many different positions in the industry and that will enable you to successfully meet changing requirements. By engaging highly qualified teaching staff and lecturers from the professional world, we guarantee you a demanding study program with good career prospects.
The annual Business Event organized by the Faculty of Business Studies, brings speakers from science and practice together and offers you the opportunity to get in touch with companies.

Showing initiative opens doors
The Faculty of Business Studies cooperates with companies from the region in many fields. Internships at companies often pave the way to practically relevant theses. The more initiative you show, the easier it will be for you to establish contacts with companies that could be interesting for your career start.
International
A high academic level through international exchange
Many international visiting students and the international experiences of the lecturers, set respective standards for the academic level of the study program.
English-taught courses, English academic literature and case studies combined with your initiative to improve your language skills enable you to master the international commercial language actively and passively.
The four-semester Master’s programs comprise a semester abroad or a practice semester. Here, we cooperate with various partner universities in Europe and overseas. During a study or practice semester abroad, you can further developyour intercultural and foreign language skills that can help you when you enter into professional life and be a basis for a career in research.
Research
In many ways, an element of teaching
With the support of the Faculty of Business Studies, above average students can actively participate in innovative projects in cooperation with local research part-ners, such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) or the research institute IDiAL at Fachhochschule Dortmund. As far as possible, students will be involved in the development of product and process innovations. Project and term papers as well as the Master’s thesis may be realized in research projects and the respective research results can be included in the course, where applicable. Several students were able to present the results of their research at conferences and in specialist journals in the past.
International contacts are an additional foundation for many research activities.
Moreover, Fachhochschule Dortmund promotes the option of pursuing a cooperative doctorate. The Promotionskolleg at Fachhochschule Dortmund is a central contact point for supporting dissertation projects.
Career Service
Extending skills and Knowledge
The Career Service at Fachhochschule Dortmund encourages you to expand your skills and your knowledge in different fields. You can take various foreign language courses or Spanish for Advanced Learners. We offer courses in project management or in open-ended communication, conversation skills or conflict management to broaden your communicative skills.
You can also specialize in a technical field of expertise. And you can also take a European Computer Driving License (ECDL course) or improve your scientific writing in Citavi and LaTeX courses, for example.
