Our international profile
We regard ourselves as a window from Dortmund into the world. And as a place in which internationality can be experienced and actively lived. In our region, we have experience with diversity. With five million inhabitants, the Ruhr region is characterized by its extraordinary ability to integrate immigrants from a variety of countries, regions and cultural backgrounds.
At our University, we promote the mobility of students as well as of our teachers and other staff members within our international partner network – in total over 140 universities in more than 50 countries worldwide. We provide qualified support for our international students. That is one of a wide range of advisory and information services of our International Off ice.
In addition to our international study programs, visiting lecturers from all over the world contribute towards making our University more attractive. We are also more than happy that a variety of successful activities offered by our faculties and institutes shape the international profile of our University.
Internationality goes hand in hand with cultural diversity and a welcoming culture.
Campus International 2025
“Fachhochschule Dortmund – University of Applied Sciences and Arts will be a Campus International by the year 2025”.
We would like to shape our future activities based on this primary objective. It serves as the overarching bracket for the focus of the goals and activities in the internationalization process and the cornerstones of our university-wide internationalization strategy.
"Campus International" expresses the self-concept of our University of being a cosmopolitan place that values and promotes cultural diversity and cultural skills.
For Fachhochschule Dortmund, Establishing a “Campus International” is inextricably linked to a university-wide welcoming culture for international students, teachers, researchers and staff, who become part of our University, as well as to an institutional (foreign) language policy, which facilitates to establish a university-wide visibility in German and English in all areas, both within and outside of our University.
Strategic internationalization
Following the participation in the Audit process "Internationalisation of Universities" of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK)(Opens in a new tab) in 2010/11, we have developed a range of strategic aspects in recent years in order to promote internationalization.
The successful passing of the follow-up format of the Audit, the HRK Re-Audit “Internationalisation of Universities”(Opens in a new tab) , in 2022 made it possible to further internationalize Fachhochschule Dortmund.
By establishing a dedicated Vice Rectorate for Internationalization and incorporating internationalization as one of the four focus topics in the new University Development Plan 2020-2025, Fachhochschule Dortmund has demonstrated a clear commitment to the ever-increasing relevance of strategic internationalization.
With the "Campus International 2025" strategy adopted in 2022, we are adjusting the focus of the previous internationalization strategy and our priorities in internationalization for the coming years in line with the current University Development Plan (HEP).
