Traveling by train via Dortmund Hauptbahnhof
Dortmund’s central station is still being renovated until 2024. Currently (2022), not all platforms are accessible. Information on accessibility can be found on the station website of the national railway company Deutsche Bahn.
If you are traveling via the central station Bochum Hauptbahnhof, change there to the S-Bahn, as all platforms in Bochum are accessible.
Train S1, stop “Dortmund Universität”
Both platforms at the S-Bahn stop have an elevator as well as escalators. The elevator also provides access to the hanging railway H-Bahn.
Take the elevator to the ground level (EG) or take the escalator up.
When you stand with your back to the H-Bahn stop, you will see the large flight of stairs. Keep to the right and take the paved path next to the exit to the S-Bahn in the direction of "Dortmund Hauptbahnhof". There is no tactile guidance and orientation system on this path. The path rises slightly and leads in an arc towards the building Emil-Figge-Straße 44.
The first entrance (automatic sliding doors) leads into the annex of the building EFS 44 (lecture hall). From here, the entire building is accessible. The main entrance and the central info point/porter’s lodge are located at the other end of the building.
Buildings 38, 38a, 38b, 40, 40a and 42 can be reached via the same route and are located behind building 44.
You either walk through building 44 and 42 (tactile guidance and orientation system available between the buildings) or walk outside passing by the buildings.
You can follow the guidance system from the east exit of building 44 (walk across the ground level) and then enter building 42, walk straight ahead for about 10 meters to the door and then continue to follow the guidance system. The buildings are each marked with truncated domes.
Information for blind and vision impaired persons
Alternative route from the S-Bahn stop "Universität" with tactile guidance and orientation system:
The platforms have two exits with escalators leading to the ground surface. Once you have reached the ground surface of the stop, you will find a tactile guidance and orientation system.
If you are coming from Düsseldorf, follow the guidance system to the first junction. Follow the only possible route in a 90-degree angle to the right or left. The next junction leads to the second platform for trains arriving from Dortmund.
If you are coming from Dortmund, the escalator should be on the right side of the stairs. Turn right at the first junction, otherwise turn left.
If you are coming from Düsseldorf, continue straight ahead. At the first junction, follow the path that runs diagonally to the right. Here begins a flight of stairs.
Follow the stairs over three landings to the top. Follow the guidance system to the right. It leads directly to the main entrance and central information point/porter’s lodge at EFS 44.

Follow the stairs and keep to the right at the top, then continue straight ahead until you reach the building EFS 44.
When coming from Hacheney/Hombruch, the exit is directly on the side where the elevator and stairs are located next to each other. Use the stairs or elevator to the campus.
