The buildings on Campus Max-Ophüls-Platz are historic, heritage-protected buildings that are not accessible due to their structural substance. For this reason, please note the following:
Max-Ophüls-Platz 1
The main entrance of the building can be accessed only via stairs.
Upon prior notification, a ramp can be set up and used at the rear entrance. Only the rooms on the first floor can be accessed via the ramp.
There are no automatic door openers inside the building.
There is no elevator in the building.
Max-Ophüls-Platz 2
There is no central accessible entrance that allows you to reach all rooms. Therefore, the site plan for the building shows three entrances with the rooms that can be accessed from here without using any stairs.
The porter’s lodge can be reached only via stairs from the outside and inside.
There are no automatic door openers inside the buildings.
The major part of the building Max-Ophüls-Platz 2 can be accessed by using an elevator.
Accessibility information for blind and vision impaired persons on Campus Max-Ophüls-Platz (MOP)
There is no tactile guidance and orientation system on the way to Campus MOP nor on the campus itself.
In the building Max-Ophüls-Platz 2, the rooms are labeled in Braille.
The traffic lights on the way from the subway stop "Kreuzstraße" to Campus MOP are signal traffic lights that vibrate during the green phase.
Traveling by train via Dortmund Hauptbahnhof
Dortmund’s central station is still being renovated until 2024. Currently (2022), not all platforms are accessible. Information on accessibility can be found on the station website of the national railway company Deutsche Bahn.
From the direction "Dortmund Hauptbahnhof" take the U45 to the stop "Stadtgarten" and there:
either change to the U42 in the direction of "Grevel" and get off at the stop "Kreuzstraße"
or take the U45 or U46 to the stop "Westfalenhallen”.
Walking from the subway stop "Westfalenhallen"
When coming from "Stadtgarten": get off and walk to the escalators on the right.
When coming from the direction "Dortmund Hauptbahnhof": get off and walk to the escalators on the left.
Walk towards the direction of "Ausgang Süd" and take the escalator up. Take the next escalator on the right and go up. Follow the small path in the direction of Westfalenhallen.
Alternatively, use the elevator Aufzug Süd (elevator between the platforms). At the top, follow the path to the left in the direction of Westfalenhallen.
After walking over a small crossing, follow the path across the grounds of Westfalenhallen for about 300 meters. At the end of the path, cross the bridge over the expressway. The bridge is very steep.
You will walk directly towards the main entrance and the porter’s lodge of the building. The main entrance and the porter’s lodge can be reached only via stairs.
Stepless entrances to different parts of the building are located in the courtyard.
Walk past the building and after about 20 meters turn right into a driveway and walk on for about another 20 meters and then turn right into the inner courtyard of Campus MOP.
For accessible access that allows you to reach most parts of the building, turn right after the stairs. Then walk towards the corner of the building and directly to the elevator.
Walking from "Kreuzstraße" subway stop
No matter which direction you are coming from: take the escalator to the exit and then the escalator on the right to go up.
Once you reach the top, follow Kreuzstraße straight ahead for about 300 meters.
Pass the bus stop and walk to the traffic lights and then turn right into Lindemannstraße.
From there, follow the road straight ahead for about 500 meters past the gas station.
On the left-hand side there is a traffic light with a pedestrian island. Cross the next set of traffic lights with a pedestrian island, which is now on your right.
After crossing, follow the road straight ahead for 300 meters. You will then see the building Max-Ophüls-Platz 1 on your left.
For the main entrance of Max-Ophüls-Platz 2, which can be reached only via stairs, continue straight ahead for about 30 meters. Then take the stairs up on the left. The foyer and porter's lodge are located here.
The stepless entrances to the building Max-Ophüls-Platz 2 are located at the front of the building. When coming from the subway, walk past the building Max-Ophüls-Platz 1 for about 10 meters. Turn left into the driveway to the courtyard of Max-Ophüls-Platz 2 and walk on for about 20 meters and then turn right into the inner courtyard of Campus MOP.
For accessible access that allows you to reach most parts of the building, turn right after the stairs.
Traveling by car
Campus Max-Ophüls-Platz is located directly next to the through road Bundesstraße 1 (B1). The B1 can be reached via the highways A1, A44 and A45.
From the direction of Kamener Kreuz, highway junction AK Do/Unna, Westhofener Kreuz: Exit "ZVS/WDR" (Lindemannstraße), after about 100 meters turn right onto Max-Ophüls-Platz 2.
When coming from the highway junction AK Do/Witten: Exit "ZVS/WDR", turn right at the exit into Wittekindstraße. Then turn right at the traffic lights into Lindemannstraße, after 150 meters turn left onto Max-Ophüls-Platz 2.
When coming from the highway junction AK Do-West and AK Do Nordwest: Exit "ZVS/WDR", turn right at the exit into Wittekindstraße. After about 350 meters, turn right into Lindemannstraße. Then after 150 meters turn left onto Max-Ophüls-Platz 2.
Parking
Accessible parking spaces are located in the courtyard of the Max-Ophüls-Platz 2 building.
The main entrances to the Max-Ophüls-Platz 1 and 2 buildings can be accessed only via stairs.
The stepless entrances to the Max-Ophüls-Platz 2 building are located in the inner courtyard.
