About the project
Scientific Support for the Development of a Framework Concept for Family Elementary School Centers in Dortmund
On behalf of the City of Dortmund, the development of a framework concept for Dortmund’s five family-oriented elementary school centers is being supported by academic research. Family elementary school centers serve as places for interaction, counseling, and education for children and their families. They strengthen collaboration between schools, youth services, family education programs, and the local community, and help provide low-threshold access to support, participation, and education.
The goal of the project is to develop a scientifically grounded draft concept that describes the common quality characteristics of Dortmund’s family elementary school centers while also taking into account location-specific arrangements. The focus is on questions regarding a shared basic understanding, roles and interfaces, the participation of children and families, as well as opportunities for documentation, quality assurance, and further development.
Methodologically, the research support is based on document analyses, observations, expert interviews, and development workshops with representatives of the family elementary school centers. The results will be synthesized into an empirically grounded draft concept with recommendations, which will serve as the basis for the City of Dortmund to finalize the framework concept internally.
