Talk im U - Climate crisis: Third mission of universities

Fast facts

Information

The "Talk im U" lecture series at Fachhochschule Dortmund on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, will focus on the climate crisis and the role of universities and science in tackling it.

With its applied science in research and teaching, Fachhochschule Dortmund is closely networked with Business Studies and society. The reciprocal transfer between science and practice drives innovation and makes the university of applied sciences an important partner in the region and beyond. However, transfer also means assuming social responsibility as a university. This third mission encompasses cultural, social and ecological commitment.

The current climate crisis inevitably plays a major role in this third mission. Universities not only have the knowledge about the climate problems, they are also working on possible solutions to the crisis at the same time.

The need for universities to intervene as "change agents" in the debates on socio-ecological transformation will be discussed at the "Talk im U":

  • Dr. Gudula Frieling, member of the Ecumenical Institute for Peace Theology and Dortmund councillor
  • Tilman Hüppauff, Environmental Psychology working group for transdisciplinary sustainability research at Fachhochschule Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts
  • Sina-Marie Schneller, member of the artistic direction of the FAVORITEN festival
  • Prof. Dr. Tamara Appel, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Studies at Fachhochschule Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts

The discussion will start with a keynote speech on the "Scientist Rebellion" movement by Dr. Gudula Frieling. The "Talk im U" starts at 7 pm in the Reinoldius room of the Dortmunder U, Leonie-Reygers-Terrasse in 44137 Dortmund, admission is from 6.30 pm. The discussion will be streamed online.
