Sustainable and energy-optimized roofs and façades

Modern building envelopes reduce heat build-up in summer and heat loss in winter. They also contribute to the overall energy balance of a building by actively generating solar energy themselves. There are more and more
large-scale hall and office façades that require a sensitive approach to architecture and the use of metallic envelopes.

The aim of the Master's study program is to introduce architects to the structural design, building physics and energy characteristics of metal building envelopes.

Specialization in technical, constructive and aesthetic developments in metal construction

The two-semester Master's study program is designed as an application-oriented, interdisciplinary deepening of your constructive, building physics, energy and administrative knowledge and skills in the design of metal building envelopes. In particular, you will learn how to keep pace with the rapid technical developments in metal construction.

The metal building envelope module teaches design and construction skills as well as the necessary knowledge of statics, building physics, energy efficiency and material minimization. In the laboratory tests module, you will deal with the physical and chemical properties of metals. The façade design module deals with spatial constructions, color systems and principles for integration into the environment. The construction/building physics module focuses on sustainability and energy efficiency. In further modules, you will develop a project and deal with project management and system construction. In the final Master's thesis, you will independently develop a solution to a problem in the field of metal building envelopes and present it in a colloquium.
