SONAR

Social sustainability working group

Fast facts

About the project

The SONAR working group is a unique association of representatives from the Faculty of Applied Social Studies, the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Design, the Faculty of Computer Science and the Faculty of Business Studies.

In a joint process of knowledge integration, the participants develop a common knowledge base (technical and methodological) in thematic focal points and thus specifically promote the topic of social sustainability.
The aim is to jointly develop new methods and transdisciplinary approaches that contribute to overcoming future societal challenges under the guiding principle of social sustainability.

In addition, the working group promotes the development of students' skills for interdisciplinary cooperation through interdisciplinary courses within Fachhochschule Dortmund's study programs.

Networking with the Dortmund Science Master Plan

The SONAR working group is actively involved in the design and further development of the "Social Sustainability" area of expertise in the Dortmund Science Masterplan.

In the master plan, social sustainability is regarded as a scientific field of expertise with potential and cross-city appeal for Dortmund as a research location. As part of the master plan, the topic is to be developed into a cross-sectional field for science in Dortmund. To this end, suitable research, development and teaching activities in Dortmund will be identified and joint conferences and research projects initiated.

"Knowledge.creates.networking" - 2nd Dortmund Research Forum "Social Sustainability"

Science interactive, colorful and creative - this is how the second Dortmund Research Forum "Social Sustainability" presented itself on October 25, 2016. Around 50 participants from Dortmund research facilities and institutions created the living research map "Social Sustainability in Dortmund" in the auditorium of the Faculty of Design at our Fachhochschule Dortmund. With colorful tape and a lot of enthusiasm, current project results and work were exchanged, existing connections were strengthened, new contacts were made and at the same time the networks were made visible.

The motto "Knowledge.creates.networking" became the program of the second Dortmund Research Forum "Social Sustainability":

While keynote speeches provided insights into current research on social sustainability, the floor design already heralded the interactive format of the afternoon: To locate the institutions and projects, students from the Faculty of Design at Fachhochschule Dortmund sketched the outline of the city of Dortmund on the floor of the auditorium the day before and also illustrated the regional, national and international area. Logos of Dortmund's research institutions and the city of Dortmund were placed on this map.

The approximately 50 participants from Dortmund's research facilities and institutions then created the living research map. Using colored tape, they drew connections from their project location to their institutions and other project partners. Further networks were created through discussions and the establishment of new contacts. Young scientists and employees in particular were able to expand their personal network to include cooperation partners for future projects.

And the research map lives on: the project has been accompanied by photography and film, is now being digitally processed and will then also be used for communication in a supra-regional context.
