About the project

ProDiT-Projects for the Digital Transformation

The way people work and live is changing due to two major trends: the digital age and the organizational shift towards projects. We live in a project-oriented and digitalized world. The evolution of organizations (e.g. companies, but also universities), processes and technologies is forcing people, companies and societies to change at an enormous speed. The digital transformation is therefore one of the greatest challenges for companies, society and education. It requires new forms of management. To successfully deal with disruption and leap innovations, projects have proven to be a good tool and important organizational pattern for digital transformation. The knowledge alliance "Projects for Digital Transformation - ProDiT" is building a community, training and knowledge cluster of universities, companies and other partners to provide the necessary skills for the project management of digital transformation. The consortium focuses on a common competency model for digital transformation, a maturity model for organizational development and a sustainability framework. Relevant (agile) project management methodology is being orchestrated and refined. Another important aspect is the international, intercultural and interdisciplinary skills that are indispensable in a project. In order to support the transfer of knowledge, the university concept of a cross-border virtual Master's and PhD school is linked to the companies' in-company training programs.

To this end, the following problems and research questions must be addressed:

  • What are the relevant competencies for the "Management of Digital Transformation" (MDT)? And how can we map their dynamic change and complexity?
  • How do organizations need to be transformed in order to cope with digital change? How can we assess their level of maturity?
  • How can we deal with the rapid growth of knowledge in our projects and organizations?
  • How do we keep an eye on the effects of the transformation? How do we guarantee sustainability?

The Knowledge Alliance ProDiT delivers the following results:

  • First, frameworks and standards are developed, including a Competency Model for Digital Transformation (CMDT), a Digital Transformation Maturity Model (DTMM) for organizations and projects, and a Digital Sustainability Canvas.
  • Secondly, teaching and learning materials are provided to support lecturers and trainers in the development of educational programs.
  • Thirdly, a co-production approach by industry and academia in Open Communities of Practice (OpenCoPs) guarantees that the teaching and learning materials are highly relevant, up-to-date and suitable for professional use.
