The world finals of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) at Messe Dortmund from 17 to 19 November 2022 provided exciting insights into the world of robotics. The Faculty of Computer Science and the Institute for the Digital Transformation of Application and Living Domains (IDiAL) at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts not only demonstrated various exhibits at their own information stand, but also offered two workshops on the topics of "Robots for Teaching" and "Robotics / Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Ethics".

Over 360 international teams put their technical knowledge to the test for the WRO. Around a thousand children and young people from a total of 73 countries were guests and presented their robot solutions for tricky tasks in several categories - such as shooting balls or disinfecting surfaces.

According to the organizers' estimates, around 3,000 visitors watched the stimulating competitions in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology free of charge. In this sense, participation in MINT was the order of the day! In addition to potential prospective students, there were also teachers from schools who, thanks to the WRO supporting program, should now have Fachhochschule Dortmund and its range of courses on their radar.

In addition to the modular demonstrator "D4" from the research project "Establishment of the German Rescue Robotics Center (A-DRZ)", the UAS also presented two robot systems ("Crawler" and "Edurob") developed in-house for teaching purposes. "The WRO was a special opportunity to present Fachhochschule Dortmund to the interested public and especially young people with vivid examples of teaching and research at the Faculty of Computer Science and the Institute for the Digital Transformation of Application and Living Domains (IDiAL)," summarized Prof. Dr. Andrea Kienle, Vice-Rector for Digitalization.
