Debate spaces on the changing city

Published

Lively exchange: How can sustainable living and sustainable mobility be achieved, for example?

The public dialog series "City in Transition" addresses current socially relevant topics. Debate rooms provide impulses for daily work as well as for private life. Fachhochschule Dortmund is also taking part in this new format of the Science Masterplan.

Until the closing event on May 2, 2023, several debate rooms will promote exchange within urban society on urgent requirements, problems and issues. Citizens, stakeholders and all interested parties are invited to come together twice a month to discuss key topics such as sustainability, employment and the future of energy.

The venue is the "Projektor", a space for innovation and collaboration, which can accommodate around 40 people at Westenhellweg 136. Participation in the debate rooms is free of charge and possible without registration.

Debates are welcome in the "Projektor" room at Westenhellweg 136 in Dortmund's city center.

Kick-off with sustainable living

The "City in Transition" series kicked off on February 7, 2023 with the question: "Dortmund, how sustainably do you live?" The guests in the projector room were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Andrea Kienle from Fachhochschule Dortmund in her role as spokesperson for the "Experimental City" topic group in the Science 2.0 master plan.

Moderator Sebastian Kreimer, Head of the CSR Office at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts, welcomed sociologist Dr. Benjamin Görgen as an expert. In his presentation, he outlined the challenges for sustainable and fair social development. According to him, it is not just a matter of individual behavior to promote sustainable lifestyles. The right framework conditions are also needed to establish sustainable lifestyles. Politicians are increasingly called upon to do this.

Afterwards, the visitors debated the responsibilities, obstacles and drivers for a sustainable lifestyle in Dortmund - and what influence politicians and citizens actually have.
