Theater lab

Fast facts

Profile

Located on the fourth floor of Emil-Figge-Straße 44, this 200-square-metre theater hall seats 100 spectators. It has modern stage technology, such as a grandstand that can be extended in several stages and a computer-controlled lighting system. Flexibility, multifunctionality and ease of use of the technology were important aspects in the planning and implementation. For example, the room allows stage orientations in all four directions, as it is equipped with a revolving curtain as well as a rotating and swiveling lighting system. The new theater hall has a timeless and functional black and white aesthetic, which also includes a blackened parquet floor. It allows for complete blackout or bright daylight, depending on requirements. The equipment also includes screens and projectors for front and rear projections, enabling interdisciplinary and inter-media work and research. The new theater laboratory is used for all artistic and scenic concepts as well as teaching and learning projects at the Faculty of Applied Social Studies. It is also a venue and workspace for the Theater as Social Art profile course under the direction of Prof. Dr. Norma Köhler and Prof. Dr. Christoph Lutz-Scheurle. Integrated into the social work degree course, students can acquire a certificate of further education from the Federal Association of Theater Pedagogy. The Theaterlabor is also a place for regional cooperation projects in the context of social work, art/theater and cultural education.
