The Faculty of Electrical Engineering focuses on the successful Bachelor's degree programs in Electrical Engineering and Energy Management. The Electrical Engineering study program offers specializations in Drive Systems and Automation, Electrical Energy and Environmental Engineering as well as Industrial Electronics and Sensor Technology. These specializations are continued and deepened in the Master's degree course in Energy Systems, which is also offered as a part-time course.

The field of electrical engineering is the fundamental prerequisite for mastering the challenges of digitalization, the energy transition and sustainable mobility. Through practice-oriented teaching on a scientific basis, students acquire the knowledge, skills and methods required to practice the engineering profession in the fields of electrical engineering.

By applying future-oriented technologies while taking economic and ecological aspects into account, graduates will assume a high level of social responsibility in the future. The sustainable use of energy and resources is an integral part of electrical engineering studies and research. As a graduate of our faculty, you will play an active role in shaping the future of our society.

Successful completion of the practice-oriented Bachelor's degree programs in Electrical Engineering and Energy Management guarantees you a career with a secure future and very good earning and career opportunities.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and its predecessor institutions can look back on a history of over 90 years, which began with the establishment of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the state engineering school in Dortmund in 1929. Since then, the faculty has always been involved in current technical developments and is thus firmly anchored in the region. Electrical Power Engineering is thus a historically grown core subject area of the Fachhochschule Dortmund with a variety of links to other faculties.

With the BA Electrical Engineering, BA Energy Management and MA Energy Systems study programs, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering offers a coordinated range of courses in fundamental electrical engineering subjects with a modern twist. The important and forward-looking areas of study and research in the fields of drive systems, automation, electrical energy technology, environmental technology, industrial electronics and sensor technology are closely interlinked and further developed across all areas. In modern teaching, the boundaries between the core competencies of the various faculties are increasingly being crossed in all areas and cooperative solutions are being sought.

Many modern, very well-equipped laboratories are available for the various fields of study and specializations. In terms of content, new developments in all areas are integrated into the courses on offer. The common basis of modern electrical systems is the combined application of the key technologies of electrical engineering.
