People often talk about the polarization of society. But what is meant by this, how can it be recognized and how dramatic is the situation? The lecture addresses the dangers of democracy and draws on three studies to explain the form and extent of polarization. Finally, consequences for (local) politics, civil society and the social economy will be presented.
