Düsseldorf has been regarded as the birthplace of new and innovative music since the 1970s and early 1980s. After Kraftwerk and NEU!, a new generation shaped the city with boisterous, loud and uncompromising music: Male, Mittagspause, Die Fehlfarben, Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft (DAF), Östro 430, Der Plan, later Die Toten Hosen. The punk-influenced bands soon formed in the vicinity of the Ratinger Hof. In the shadow of the old town and in the immediate vicinity of the art academy, the city's musical DNA was formed. In a pulsating collage of exclusive archive footage, music and numerous interviews, the documentary KEINE ATEMPAUSE celebrates the sound from Düsseldorf that continues to influence the German music scene today.
