Quote

Fischer, U. (2025). Communities with a future.

Content

The times seem to be unfavorable for socio-political innovations and visionary proposals. In view of the challenges posed by US policy, the economic and foreign policy crises in the EU and Germany, the tense security situation, ailing infrastructures, deficits in state budgets from the federal to the local level, etc., there seems to be no money left for social benefits. However, an austerity policy falls short and causes damage that costs the community dearly, as the shift to the right in parts of the country shows. Democracy needs security and justice, freedom and equality. The lecture paints a picture of a possible future for the community that realizes these qualities and examines the extent to which an unconditional basic income would be a suitable socio-political framework for this.
