Polarisierte Gesellschaft?

There is often talk of a divide in society. But what is the true state of social cohesion? Should we be concerned, or is a certain degree of division part of a vibrant democracy? During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people found that shared dialogue became difficult, and rifts often emerged within families and circles of friends. This lecture takes these phenomena as a starting point to reflect on social cohesion, provide a theoretical foundation for it, and examine it empirically. It will also address the role of civic engagement, notions of justice, and forward-looking social policy.
