This illustrated book is a summary of the practical and theoretical aspects of this subject - especially for budding sound designers. The book is divided into 12 chapters covering general acoustic and biological topics on hearing, sound technology and sound practice, especially in film sound. The second and much more important part deals exclusively with creative questions on the subject of film soundtracks, culminating in the thesis that sound design, understood in compositional terms, is the actual film music for contemporary films. This thesis is based on 4 exemplary and detailed audio-visual analyses.
