Skin Cancer Indication Engineering

Skin Cancer Indication Engineering: Development of a self-learning monitoring system for the classification of skin characteristics for the assessment of actinic keratosis by patients in home use

Fast facts

About the project

The project aims to develop a monitoring system for the classification of skin characteristics for the assessment of actinic keratosis by patients for home use. In critical or unclear situations, the system prompts patients to consult a specialist. By informing the patient in this way, the aim is for the patient to take early action so that timely medical treatment can be carried out by a specialist. The system to be developed consists of an infrastructure comprising a mobile skin probe, a mobile application (app) and a software cloud. With the mobile skin probe, patients can measure relevant skin properties in a user-friendly way at home, which are then transmitted to the app. Patients can also use the app to enter medical history data. This data and the measurement data are then sent to the cloud, which analyzes the data received and sends the calculated results back to the patient.
