About the project

Science meets Fiction - Film & Reflection

Science meets fiction: As part of the film series by Prof. Dr. Emra Ilgün-Birhimeoğlu(Opens in a new tab)  and Prof. Dr. Dierk Borstel(Opens in a new tab)  in the Faculty of Applied Social Studies(Opens in a new tab) , selected feature films are shown that address socially relevant topics. An external academic expert is invited to each event to classify the content of the film from a specialist perspective. This is followed by a moderated discussion with the plenum, in which the content shown is jointly reflected on against the background of empirical and theoretical findings.

Parallel to the film screenings, additional reflection workshops are held with students. These offer space for in-depth discussion in small groups, in which reflection methods (e.g. change of perspective, critical incident technique, biography work) are tried out. The aim is to support the transfer of film and discussion content into the students' individual reflective practice.

Film screenings

A total of three different films will be shown on three different dates and discussed with the experts. Details on the individual events, venues and registration can be found below.

Cooperation

The project takes place in cooperation with Sunrise Dortmund(Opens in a new tab) , a youth education and counseling facility in Dortmund for all young LGBPATINQ+ people up to the age of 23, their relatives and educational staff.
