Measuring 3D endoscope

Fast facts

About the project

Project type Public funding
(BMBF, KMU-innovativ Medizintechnik)
Duration 3 years (2017-2020)

Until now, doctors have used 3D endoscopes to visually confirm their disease diagnosis. However, the endoscopes only produce images on the basis of which the attending physician has to estimate distances in the diseased body region. However, for minimally invasive surgery and the question of whether and to what extent surgery is required, as well as for the corresponding treatment recommendation, determining the size of lesions or precisely measuring the distances between them is of central importance.

The measuring 3D endoscope enables the physician to precisely determine the size of tumors, cysts, etc. in the region to be treated and to define the therapy on the basis of exact - and not estimated - values.
