About the project

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is the gold standard in gynecology, using laparoscopy to gently examine and treat the abdominal cavity and female reproductive organs. Nevertheless, recurrences and second operations due to incompletely or not at all removed tissue occur time and again. The project focuses on algorithms for tissue analysis using spectral image sensors in MIS with a focus on the diagnosis of endometriosis. Characteristic features for the differentiation of human tissue are obtained by analyzing self-acquired image data. Classification methods (machine learning) are used and optimized with the help of non-linear modelling and synthetic extensions.
