Prof. Dr. Jan Christoph Albrecht

I hold a degree in industrial engineering with a specialization in mechanical engineering and completed my doctoral dissertation at the University of Kassel between 2009 and 2015 on the topic “The Influence of Project Management Maturity on Project Success.” After holding various positions in industry, primarily as a manager of product development projects in the automotive and specialty vehicle manufacturing sectors (including HELLA), I was appointed to Fachhochschule Dortmund in 2022. The main focus of my teaching is on project management.

Anwesha Mukherjee, external doctoral candidate

Ms. Mukherjee holds a degree in business administration and, since completing her master’s degree (European Master in Project Management, Fachhochschule Dortmund, 2022), has been conducting part-time research on the influence of soft factors—such as (servant) leadership—on the success of agile projects. Her doctorate is being conducted in cooperation with the University of Kassel, Institute for Industrial Engineering and Process Management / Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In addition to her work in management consulting, she has a strong interest in generative AI and digital twin technology and, in this context, has founded a startup that uses AI to provide members of Generation Z with guidance on career questions. At the 2023 IEEE IDAACS Conference (Intelligent Data Acquisition and Advanced Computing Systems), her paper was selected as the best in the project management track.

Florian Rüttger, external doctoral candidate

Mr. Rüttger holds a degree in industrial engineering (specializing in electrical engineering) and a master’s degree in project management (European Master in Project Management, Fachhochschule Dortmund, 2019). From November 2023 to July 2026, he worked part-time on the DigiTransPro(Opens in a new tab)  research project. His doctorate combines (agile) product development and digital transformation. The doctorate program is being conducted in cooperation with the Department of Graphic Design and Engineering Projects at the University of the Basque Country (EHU) in Bilbao, Spain.

My research interests and expertise include the following areas:

• Further development of organizational project management (PMO, maturity measurement, project portfolio management)
• Management of digital transformation projects
• Agile and hybrid project management
• Project management in product development

Due to the high volume of theses from the European Master in Project Management, I can only accept a limited number of theses from students of other study programs. There is no list of topics. You are welcome to use the topics listed on this page under "Research" as a guide. In principle, it is possible to work in cooperation with companies. I will be happy to discuss further conditions with you.
