UAS sustainability offerings in the new SDG program

Published

Stakeholders from urban society gathered at Fachhochschule Dortmund for the launch of the new SDG brochure. They were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Franz Vogler (left), Vice-Rector for Sustainability and Digitalization at Fachhochschule Dortmund.

The city of Dortmund has presented its new SDG brochure for the first half of 2026 - with a wide range of offers from Fachhochschule Dortmund. At the official presentation at the UAS, it became clear that sustainability is a community matter.

With around 90 events and more than 85 year-round offers, the program offers an impressive variety of sustainability activities in the city. The spectrum ranges from workshops, exhibitions and lectures to excursions.

SDG stands for "Sustainable Development Goals" - the 17 goals for sustainable development that were adopted by the United Nations in 2015. For the first time, they include environmental and development aspects together and are aimed at everyone: governments, civil society, the private sector and science.

The official presentation of Dortmund's SDG action program for the first half of 2026 took place at Fachhochschule Dortmund. Numerous stakeholders from urban society were invited and came to Sonnenstraße to exchange ideas and network. "As the first university in NRW oriented towards the common good, we see sustainability as a holistic mission - in teaching, research, operations and transfer," emphasized Sebastian Kreimer from the UAS CSR Office. "With our offers in the SDG program, we would like to invite not only our students, but also all citizens of Dortmund to work with us on a sustainable future for Dortmund."

What Fachhochschule Dortmund offers

Fachhochschule Dortmund is represented, for example, in the lecture series "Gemeinsam Nachhaltig" (Sustainable Together), which will run in the 2026 summer semester at all universities in the Sustainability Alliance for Applied Sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia. The lectures on various topics are open to everyone and take place on site and digitally - every second Wednesday of the month from 5.15 to 6.30 p.m. More information at www.hn-nrw.de/ringvorlesung(Opens in a new tab)

Another part of the action programme is the Sustainability Week in June, which Fachhochschule Dortmund organizes together with the university, the Studierendenwerk and the student representatives of both universities. A new addition to the program is the Urban Resilience Laboratory (URLab) at the Hochschule vor Ort. In addition to Fachhochschule Dortmund, there are 20 other associations and organizations from the consumer advice center to NABU that support the SDG action program.

"This booklet impressively shows how many committed stakeholders in Dortmund are working to implement the Sustainable Development Goals," emphasizes Sebastian Kreimer. "As part of the climate-neutral NRW 2030 state administration, Fachhochschule Dortmund is determined to make its contribution to a sustainable urban society. Everyone can get involved - that is the central message of the SDG program."

The brochure is available in the town hall and from the 20 participating organizations. A PDF version is available to download here. The next program for the second half of 2026 will be published in September.
