During the lecture-free period, around 60 pupils from Höchsten elementary school (grades 3a and 3b) had the opportunity to get to know the Faculty of Computer Science.
There was already great excitement when the doors to the largest lecture hall on the Informatics campus opened. For many of the children, it was the first time they had experienced such a large lecture hall, which even has a microphone.
The first children's lecture then began: first, the Faculty of Computer Science was introduced, after which the pupils were given an insight into the everyday lives of students and professors. The lecture then moved on to "Sphero", a mini robot in the shape of a sphere.
In this practical part of the event, the children were able to get active themselves: In teams, they developed their own courses, which they then had to complete as error-free as possible using an iPad and the robot. The groups achieved this with great success.
Another highlight was the 3D printer. In an adjoining room, the children were given a live demonstration of how so-called "bookworms" - in the color orange, of course - are created.
During the breaks, the pupils were able to try out different forms of blackboard writing and collect points in the FH quiz. At the end, each child was allowed to take home a freshly printed bookworm as a souvenir.
The team - Solmaz Mjildi, Kirsten Schlesiger and Prof. Dr. Teschler-Nunkesser - would like to thank you for an exciting morning.
