Submission of dissertations

Doctoral candidates at the Doctoral School NRW are required to submit their dissertations to the library of their member institution. Here you will find information about the process at Fachhochschule Dortmund.

Pursuant to Section 15 of the Framework Doctoral Regulations(Opens in a new tab)  of the Doctoral School for Applied Research in North Rhine-Westphalia (Doctoral School NRW), there is an obligation to “make the dissertation, in the version approved by the doctoral committee, available to the academic community in an appropriate manner.” This includes submitting a specified number of copies to the library of the member institution. There are three different options for doing so:

  1. Submission of two printed and bound copies, as well as an additional upload as an electronic publication to PubliDo, the academic repository of Fachhochschule Dortmund (see below). In consultation with the Bibliothek⁺, the printed copies may be waived. If you are interested in this option, please inform the Bibliothek⁺ team in advance. Please note that two printed copies must still be submitted directly to the Doctoral School NRW!
  2. Submission of three copies if the dissertation is published in an academic journal with a verified minimum print run of 100 copies.
  3. Submit three copies if the dissertation is distributed by a commercial publisher through bookstores. This requires proof of a minimum print run of 100 copies or a contractual assurance from the publisher that the book will be available in bookstores for a period of at least four years.

The Library⁺ issues doctoral candidates a certificate confirming the deposit of the dissertation. In addition, it adds at least one of the copies to its collection and forwards the electronic legal deposit copies, in accordance with Section 56(6) of the Cultural Code of North Rhine-Westphalia (KulturGB NRW)(Opens in a new tab) , to the German National Library as well as to the University and State Library of Münster as the responsible state library. For further information, please refer to the “Information Sheet on the Publication of the Dissertation”(Opens in a new tab)  from the Doctoral School NRW.
