Model of a wind turbine in front of solar modules. Wind and solar energy are by far the most important renewable sources of electrical energy.

The Laboratory for Renewable Energy Sources in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has 10 computer workstations and a variety of laboratory equipment such as power supply units, oscilloscopes and various measuring devices for determining electrical quantities such as current, voltage, power and energy. These are used in regular courses such as the curriculum-anchored practical courses, but are also available to students for their project work and final theses in the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses.

Construction of a laboratory table. In the RE lab, students have various instruments at their disposal for their project work.

The laboratory deals with issues relating to photovoltaics, wind energy and technologies for storing electrical energy. Teaching and research projects are geared towards hybrid energy systems, which consider the generation, storage, consumption and management of electrical energy systems. Sector coupling is also important here as an interface topic to the energy industry.

There is a wide range of project and final theses. In addition to new experimental setups, there are topics in the field of software-based modeling as well as do-it-yourself hardware setups with Raspberry Pi, Arduino and Co.
