Laboratory for energy supply and station control technology (ESL)

Fast facts

Profile

The aim of the R&D activities in the laboratory for energy supply and station control technology (ESL laboratory) is to link and apply modern information technologies for an intelligent energy supply in terms of system solutions for electrical grids. In addition to classic grid analyses, secondary technology is also considered. The focus is particularly on standardized protocol interfaces for control and protection technology (IEC 60870, IEC 61850).

The ESL laboratory therefore focuses on the parameterization and project planning of protection, control and monitoring systems for power supply systems. Modern protection and control systems from leading manufacturers with corresponding engineering tools and testing techniques are available for this purpose.

The second focus in the ESL laboratory is on network calculations and simulations, which are carried out using PC-supported tools (Neplan, Netomac, CAPE).
