We are picking up speed!

Fachhochschule Dortmund goes mobile: With our elaborately restored Citroën transporter of the legendary HY type, you can meet us in places where you might not have expected to find us.

It almost seems as if we had just rediscovered our striking mobile behind a garage door in our yard, as if it had just been waiting there all these years to finally take off again. Originally belonging to a small bakery in Saarland, it now transports education instead of baked goods:

"We want to use our mobile to make the UAS even more visible in the city," explained Gerd Erdmann-Wittmaack, then Vice-Rector for University Marketing and Regional Integration. "The vehicle is intended to be a point of contact for discussions and to promote the UAS, our offers and our commitment."

The traditional corrugated iron bus from France has moved and inspired generations of car fans across borders - and still makes hearts beat faster today. Citroën produced the practical HY van almost unchanged from 1947 to 1981. Behind its robust, self-supporting body is a powerful commercial vehicle. Thanks to its 52 hp front-mounted engine, the vehicle offers space for a variety of different modular bodies.

Proud history

Rich in tradition, versatile and flexible - these are qualities that also characterize our university of applied sciences. Like the classic car, built in 1975, we have a proud history. Fachhochschule Dortmund was officially founded in 1971, while its oldest predecessor, the "Königliche Werkmeisterschule für Maschinenbauer" (Royal College of Mechanical Engineers), opened its doors back in 1890.

The basic idea has not changed over the years: Studies and teaching are geared towards solving application-oriented problems and tasks. Experienced professors guarantee that the now 14,000 or so students are connected to practice and offer a wide range of prospects from more than 70 Bachelor's and Master's study programs. The courses on offer include Architecture, Design, Computer Science, Information and Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Social Sciences and Business Studies.

Impetus for the region

As one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the Ruhr region, we also provide important impetus for the region with our research and numerous transfer projects. The UAS is an attractive partner, especially for small and medium-sized companies.
