Different types of trees were planted at a total of seven locations in Dortmund together with the city's parks and gardens department. In addition to Fredenbaumpark, the new FH trees can now also be found at Fichte Grundschule in Asseln, Comenius Grundschule and Europaschule in Wambel, Erich-Kästner-Schule in Brackel, Heisenberg Gymnasium in Kirchderne and Max-Planck-Gymnasium in the city center. The variety of species ranges from English oak and copper beech to small-leaved lime and so-called "future trees" such as field maple and purple alder. Fachhochschule Dortmund was supported in the project by its long-standing partners Wilo-Foundation and Sparkasse Dortmund .
With the planting of the "Future Trees" at the Europaschule, Fachhochschule Dortmund is setting another special example: Replacement planting had become necessary at the Europaschule due to renovations and new buildings. Thanks to the FH donation of nine trees at this location, it was possible to increase the number of new trees to 27 - corresponding to the current number of EU member states.

Symbol of sustainability
With its commitment, Fachhochschule Dortmund is expressing its solidarity with the city. The donated trees are also a symbol of sustainability - in both ecological and social terms. Fachhochschule Dortmund sees it as its task to have an impact on the region. Social responsibility is an essential cornerstone not only in its actions, but also in its teaching at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts. As a result, learning formats and study programs with a focus on sustainability are being developed in all faculties
For example, since 2014 the Master's study program "Social Sustainability and Demographic Change" at the Faculty of Applied Social Studies. However, architecture, design, business studies and engineering also focus on the use of resources and energy efficiency. Fachhochschule Dortmund is actively contributing to tackling the climate crisis through research and knowledge transfer - with numerous collaborations on the topics of mobility, energy and housing. The activities and projects are coordinated and bundled by a newly established Corporate Social Responsibility Office.
