Suitability assessment 2026
Admission to the Bachelor's degree course in Architecture at Fachhochschule Dortmund is based on a course-related aptitude assessment. Therefore, in addition to a general university entrance qualification, you must also provide proof of a specific aptitude.
The aptitude assessment for the winter semester 2026/27 will take place on June 26, 2026.

Relevant practical activity / pre-study internship
If a certificate from a higher secondary vocational school specializing in civil engineering is not available at the time of application, the completion of a relevant practical activity in the context of eight weeks of full-time employment is required. The activity must be suitable for providing an exemplary introduction to constructive interrelationships in building construction.
The following are also recognized as internships
- training as a draughtsperson in structural engineering and
- all apprenticeships according to the following trade list
Proof of the entire internship is a prerequisite for admission to the module examinations from the third semester onwards.
It is recommended to complete the entire internship before starting the degree course.

The Chair of the Examination Board of the Faculty of Architecture decides on the recognition of practical activities to fulfill the special enrollment requirement. He or she also decides on the recognition of relevant educational and professional activities.
Events for prospective students
As part of the Dortmund University Days, we are offering an extensive program for prospective students on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on Friday, June 12, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This includes guided tours of workshops and laboratories, an architecture workshop and portfolio counseling.
