Your path to a professorship - profession meets vocation
In addition to teaching course contents, skills, and abilities, you identify the strengths of your students and enhance them for the long term.
As a prospective professor, you should have the following qualifications:
- Several years of relevant professional experience
(5 years in total, at least 3 years outside institutions of higher education) - successfully completed university studies, usually with a doctorate
- pedagogical aptitude (will be reviewed and assessed during the first year of your employment)
Should you be appointed, we expect you make the Ruhr metropolis Dortmund your main place of residence.
Freedom in teaching and research
Hardly any other profession offers such a wide scope for creativity. With flexible working hours, you are free to design and structure your courses as you wish. Teaching includes 18 hours per week. This can be very time-consuming, especially at the beginning of your employment; do not hesitate to discuss this with your colleagues. We have a collegial atmosphere forming the basis for constructive teamwork.
In addition to teaching, your responsibilities will include holding exams, academic advising as well as interdisciplinary collaborations and self-administration.
You are also free to choose the field and scope your research. Our University established all necessary structures to conduct application-oriented research in your discipline. You have the opportunity to expand your own horizon of knowledge by intensively exploring scientific and artistic topics at all times. We will support you with your research proposals and the publication of your research results.
We expect our professors to actively participate in technology transfer and to acquire third-party funding.
Transfer
We would appreciate if you made use of the networks and contacts you have gained in your professional practice for your work as a professor. This way, you can offer your students the opportunity to write application-related theses or establish potential research collaborations.
