Exhibition in the projector: "саша - sasha"

Information

Image caption cawa-sascha_Motiv01+02.jpg: FH student Tizian Machtolf accompanied the two Sashas, who had fled from Ukraine, with his camera for several months.

The news is full of images of people fleeing war and destruction. But what happens after the flight? After arriving? Tizian Machtolf(Opens in a new tab) , a photography student at Fachhochschule Dortmund, explores this question in his work "саша - sasha". His pictures can be seen from February 23 to 26 at Projektor - Raum für Innovation und Zusammenarbeit - in Dortmund city center, Westenhellweg 136. Admission is free.

The two Sashas that Tizian Machtolf meets while skateboarding have come to Germany from Ukraine. 15 and 20 years old, strangers in another country, far away from their old friends. This raises questions for Tizian Machtolf: Who takes care of people who flee their homeland? Who takes responsibility? The Fachhochschule Dortmund student quickly realizes that it's not just "the others" who have to help, but that he himself has a role to play. He documented his time with the two in the photographic work "саша - sasha", which can be seen at the end of February at the Projektor am Westenhellweg.

"The pictures are not about the war, but about everyday life here in Germany," says Tizian Machtolf. In a 76-page illustrated book of the same name, the FH student gives free rein to his thoughts - on flight, integration and responsibility. "It's a communication between me and the pictures, a kind of soliloquy," describes Tizian Machtolf, who was awarded the "German Youth Photo Prize" by the Federal Ministry for Youth and Family Affairs last year for his series "homesick".

Vernissage with talk on the topic of "Arriving and living in Dortmund"

The exhibition was created by Tirzian Machtolf together with Celina Hutwelker and Jonas Diercks, scenography students at Fachhochschule Dortmund. At the vernissage on February 23 from 5 to 10 p.m., the photographer and the two protagonists of the photo series will be guests at the Projektor. The exhibition opening begins with a talk on the topic of "Arriving and living in Dortmund". Schirin Nosseir, specialist coordinator of the Dortmund integration network "lokal willkommen", as well as Jennifer Bühsing from Fachhochschule Dortmund and Famke Lang from TU Dortmund University, who are contact points for refugees at the universities, will also be present. Jennifer Bühsing(Opens in a new tab)  will also offer an open consultation hour for refugees who would like to study in Dortmund on the following day (February 24) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Projektor.
