University admission for other vocationally qualified persons

If there is no subject-related proximity between the vocational training, the professional activity and the study program, admission to higher education is granted after passing an entrance examination or - in admission-free study programs - optionally after a successful trial course.

Requirements for other professionally qualified persons

  • Completion of at least two years of recognized vocational training
  • at least three years of subsequent professional activity, including in a profession that does not correspond to the vocational training or the intended course of study. Two years are sufficient for scholarship holders of the federal government's upgrading scholarship program. The relevant date for determining sufficient professional activity is September 30 for the winter semester and March 31 for the summer semester.
    • The main responsible and independent management of a family household and the upbringing of a minor child within the meaning of § 25 para. 5 BAföG or the care of a family member are deemed equivalent to professional activity
    • The following are also counted as professional activities
      • Voluntary military service in accordance with the Conscription Act
      • Federal Voluntary Service in accordance with the Federal Voluntary Service Act
      • Voluntary social or ecological year
      • work as a development worker within the meaning of the Development Workers Act
      • completion of further vocational training in accordance with the Vocational Training Act or the Crafts Code or
      • at least half-time employment (approx. 20 hours/week)
  • Successful participation in an entrance examination or successful completion of a trial course of study
  • fulfillment of the course-specific requirements (e.g. language requirements, artistic and creative aptitude, practical work)
