Studying with care responsibilities - is that possible?

Yes, that's possible! If you are looking after relatives in need of care alongside your studies, the Family Service will be happy to support you.

Support for students with care responsibilities

You can discuss your personal situation with our contact person from the Family Service and find out what care insurance benefits your relative in need of care is entitled to and what relief and care options are available.

Together you can consider which support services might be suitable for your situation and discuss with your relatives whether the Family Service should send you contact details of providers.

Possible offers of support:

  • Support in the household
  • Accompaniment to the doctor's office
  • Shopping assistance
  • Caring for your relatives in need of care or providing company
  • Care for relatives with dementia
  • day care
  • Short-term care and respite care
  • 24-hour care
  • Senior citizens' shared flats
  • Full inpatient care in a care facility

Do your relatives in need of care not live nearby?

Of course, the Family Service will also advise you if your relative in need of care is not in your area.

Together, we will consider what support can be organized and the Family Service will put you in touch with other contacts and providers in your relative's area.

Care responsibilities for relatives with dementia

People with dementia in particular have special needs. There are various dementia diseases, of which Alzheimer's disease is probably the best known.

The Family Service will provide you with information on the subject of dementia and tell you how a diagnosis can be made if dementia is suspected. You can also find out what respite and support services are available specifically for people with dementia.
