Participation of people with disabilities through the ages using the example of the city of Hagen

Fast facts

About the project

Exhibition opening for the teaching research project "Disability through the ages"
The exhibition "Disability through the ages in Hagen" was officially opened in the auditorium of the Emil Schumacher Museum by the First Mayor of the City of Hagen, Dr. Hans-Dieter Fischer, with more than a hundred interested citizens from welfare services, politics and administration, including numerous people with disabilities.

During the opening ceremony, the students of the FH Dortmund were able to give a brief preview of the research results presented in the exhibition. Prof. Dr. Boecker was also more than satisfied with the results of the teaching research project. However, he also critically pointed out in his speech that the participation situation and thus inclusion of people with disabilities will only change if the concept of "normality" is not defined unilaterally by the majority society. Inclusion is therefore not a one-way street and politicians have a great responsibility to create meeting spaces so that people with and without disabilities can have shared experiences in all areas of society.
