About the project

The international ITEA3 project PANORAMA increases design efficiency for heterogeneous systems in the automotive and aviation industries. As an open source project, it provides an environment for collaboration between different hardware and software technologies and teams, especially in the early stages of design. It supports efficient design decisions by defining evolving standards, tools and best practices for the exchange of non-functional and formal models.

The main task of the project is to extend the scope of currently existing system-level approaches by adding functionality for heterogeneous hardware and heterogeneous functional domains to existing abstract performance metamodels. In doing so, the project will take into account the results of other projects such as TIMMO, Timmo2USE and ARAMiS I & II and extend established metamodels that were developed, for example, in the AMALTHEA and AMALTHEA4public research projects and led to Eclipse APP4MC. In this way, the extended metamodel will be a common and open standard to support development by different parties in all organizations.

PANORAMA will also provide pathways for integration and transition to project technology. Existing modeling approaches will be taken into account and transformations into the existing meta-models will be offered. To ensure broad acceptance and justify industry investment, the metamodel must be suitable for a variety of use cases throughout the development cycle. This leads to a metamodel that is inherently broad and generic. In addition, performance models are typically enriched and extended during product development.

Among the use cases considered by PANORAMA are the evaluation of different hardware architectures for a given software, the evaluation of deployment alternatives in a system or the support in optimizing system-level design decisions by visualizing analysis results.

To cover these use cases, static and dynamic analysis approaches are provided in addition to the underlying modeling approach. One challenge here, for example, is to combine dynamic analysis based on performance simulations with flexible and open solutions (such as SystemC) and their established and mature commercial simulators. In the context of static analysis, among other things, analysis methods should be provided to enable the verification of system properties such as performance, worst-case timing and correct scheduling, energy consumption, path coverage, fault isolation and safety.

In summary, the contribution of PANORAMA is to provide a comprehensive environment for the effective integration of heterogeneous systems and tools, especially dedicated to the early phases of the development process.
