Studied at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and New York University, Department of Arts and Media.

Oliver Schwabe has been making feature films and documentaries for television and cinema as an author, director and cameraman since the late 1990s. His work includes numerous TV documentaries (arte, NDR, WDR, rbb, ZDF) dealing with pop culture topics, as well as the serial format of "Videotagebücher", which he regularly supervised and edited for NDR in Hamburg from 1998-2010.

His feature films tell stories of people living on the margins of society. In his documentaries, he encounters his protagonists and characters with an open mind and curiosity and is always on the lookout for topics that reveal the unexpected. He is driven by a desire for the new and unknown, combined with the desire to get close to his characters.

His films have been shown and awarded at numerous national and international festivals. Among others, he received the Spiridon Neven Dumont Prize and was nominated for the Pop Culture Prize and the German Human Rights Film Prize and was awarded the German Documentary Film Prize 2020.
