"Hartz IV - obstacle course for EU migrants. A participatory game."

The virtual obstacle course problematizes the exclusion of benefits under SGB II for citizens from other EU countries.

The development of the game was prompted by a guideline from the Federal Employment Agency (BA) on "Combating gang-related benefit abuse in the specific context of EU freedom of movement", which is primarily intended to be applied to Hartz IV applications from migrant workers from south-eastern Europe.

Comparative calculations: Citizen's Income - Child Supplement - Basic Child Guarantee

As the emergency child supplement (in the Citizen's Income) is to be abolished with the introduction of the basic child benefit in 2025, it has been omitted from the calculations for better comparison. Otherwise, figures for 2024 were used. Any housing benefit entitlements were included in any case.

3 case constellations:

Mr. and Mrs. Petermann, with 2 small children. Mr. Petermann is employed full-time. His wife with reduced earning capacity pension and mini-job. Sheet 1 and sheet 2
The Wagner family. Mrs. Wagner is a single parent with two children (12 and 20 years old). Mrs. Wagner is employed (midijob), the older son is in education. Sheet 3 and sheet 4
Mrs. Kalisch, single with 2 adult children. Mrs. Kalisch is unemployed (had to give up her job as a nurse due to an allergy). Both children have not yet completed vocational training and have no income of their own. Sheet 5 and Sheet 6
