"From working-class child to professorship": How fair is our education system?

Published

Education is seen as a prerequisite for social advancement and a good life, as academic qualifications are associated with access to more privileged professional fields. But is it really possible for everyone to rise through hard work and effort and reach influential and recognized career positions?

Journalist Martin Stengel talks to Christina Möller, who has just been appointed to a professorship and who has made it from secondary school to a professorship and also deals sociologically with social inequalities and social advancement. She therefore reports on her own experiences of education and advancement as well as on scientific findings on hurdles and challenges.
