The European Commission has awarded Dortmund’s Climate City Pact the label of the EU mission “100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030.” Now, the “Dortmund Way” is to be made visible and brought to life by a broad majority. Fachhochschule Dortmund is supporting this effort.
To kick off “Mission Climate,” the City of Dortmund hosted an event in the Citizens’ Hall of City Hall, attracting around 120 guests. Representatives from the administration, politics, civil society, business, and other institutions learned about Dortmund’s steps toward climate neutrality and used the event to discuss current projects and future challenges.
The Climate City Pact is already being supported by various institutions and companies in Dortmund; they are incorporating climate protection measures and goals into their day-to-day operations, thereby making it clear that climate neutrality is a shared responsibility. The Fachhochschule Dortmund is also among these so-called supporters.
Climate Ambassadors Appointed
A highlight of the “Mission Climate” kickoff event was the appointment of 19 climate ambassadors for the city of Dortmund. Mayor Kalouti had reached out to prominent figures in Dortmund in advance to recognize their commitment to climate protection and sustainability; they were introduced at the kickoff event. Acting on behalf of Mayor Kalouti, Deputy Mayor Norbert Schilff presented each ambassador with a certificate. “What matters most are the people who are willing to take on responsibility, contribute new ideas, and implement concrete projects. That is exactly what ‘Mission Climate’ is all about,” said Schilff.
These are the City of Dortmund’s Climate Ambassadors from the ranks of Fachhochschule Dortmund:

The role of these ambassadors will be to champion and support “Mission Climate” by promoting its initiatives and projects within their respective networks and spheres of influence. They will assist in reaching out to additional supporters as needed and present their own climate protection projects at various “Mission Klima” events.
One of the upcoming events will take place during HeatExpo on November 25, 2026, in Dortmund. This event will focus primarily on the climate ambassadors and supporters.
