Three high school graduates from Bochum have completed a two-week research internship at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts. They caused a stir with their work on an artificial eye in the "Jugend forscht" competition and won the internship as a special prize from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (FBTEI).

As an association of universities of applied sciences, the FBTEI e.V. is particularly committed to promoting young talent. "With this special prize, which also includes a small financial grant, we are happy to bring young people into contact with our type of university and open up new perspectives," says FBTEI Chairwoman Prof. Kira Kastell.

The three young researchers gained practical experience in the laboratory for renewable energy sources.

In the laboratory for renewable energy sources at Fachhochschule Dortmund, Julia Maria Kovacs, Ruwen Gryczan and Felix Bähr developed and programmed a solar power bank as an experimental setup, which, in addition to the charging function, also displays the quality of the solar charge via a multi-color LED.

They also visited laboratories and workshops in other faculties. The interns were extremely interested and took every opportunity to gain an insight into current research topics at the university.
