Learning together despite a distance of almost 700 kilometers (as the crow flies to EFS 44). At a joint course organized by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan and the Faculty of Business Studies at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts in April, around 40 Italian and German students dealt with issues relating to the regulation of the European single market for insurance through the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD).
The renowned Milanese legal scholar Prof. Pierpaolo Marano Ph.D. and the Dortmund economist Prof. Dr. Matthias Beenken discussed how consumers should be protected when buying insurance.
The Italian and German law and economics students learned how differently the directive has been implemented in Italy and Germany and what specific problems have arisen for the companies, supervisory authorities and customers concerned. One important finding was that the national market structure has a significant influence on the impact of supranational regulation. Prof. Beenken: "The great feedback from our students motivates Pierpaolo and me to repeat this event format." The online format makes cross-border lectures much easier. "We wouldn't have been able to make the effort to travel - two universities simply joined forces virtually," adds Prof. Beenken.
