Reception at the Sonnenstraße site: Chancellor Jochen Drescher (with FH cube) and Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Tamara Appel (to his left) with the new employees and the information day organization team

New employees in teaching, research and administration were welcomed for the first time by Prof. Dr. Tamara Appel as Deputy Rector of Fachhochschule Dortmund at an information day. Jochen Drescher, the soon-to-be outgoing Chancellor, welcomed everyone to the traditional onboarding event for the last time.

When the participants gathered in the Senate Hall at the UAS Sonnenstraße campus on the morning of March 13, 2023, it was not a matter of course for this event. "The fact that we are once again hosting this 21st Info Day for you here at this location is something special," emphasized Chancellor Jochen Drescher. Because "in its original form", this was last the case before the coronavirus years. Initially, the HR department and Prospects Management had made it possible to welcome new students as a virtual format at the start of each semester, after which they temporarily moved to a spacious hall in the Westfalenhallen and the auditorium on Max-Ophüls-Platz for face-to-face meetings on the Info Day.

Invitation to help shape the future

"I would like to welcome you today to our university of applied sciences, which is one of the largest in Germany with around 14,400 students. And I am very much looking forward to getting to know you all personally as new employees," said Prof. Dr. Tamara Appel in her welcoming address. She encouraged those present to work together on future topics and to get involved in the focus groups for the university development plan(Opens in a new tab) .

Presentation and excursion

The introductory words were followed by a vivid presentation about the university of applied sciences, including offers and prospects especially for employees. The new employees were then given further insights during an excursion to the UAS sites, including laboratories, workshops and the library. This gave the new employees many opportunities to exchange ideas beyond their own department.
