Social work as a science: The theoretical foundations of social work are taught. Life situations and life difficulties in the sense of traditional and new inequalities and their possibilities for coping with life are discussed and analyzed and evaluated from a wide variety of theo-retical perspectives. In the field of intercultural social work, social structures that promote poverty, exclusion and marginalization processes are critically examined.
Methods of empirical social research: This section introduces students to qualitative and quantitative methods of empirical social research. Basic empirical research procedures, survey and evaluation methods are presented and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed.
Scientific work: The techniques, rules and methods of scientific work are developed intensively. Students practise reading difficult texts, preparing lecture notes, excerpts, thesis papers and term papers as well as researching, presenting and visualizing.
