Onboarding Class
With each new class, many people with very different backgrounds enroll at Fachhochschule Dortmund—they bring a wide variety of educational paths, personalities, skills, and talents with them. To lay a solid foundation for both individual and collaborative learning—and thereby increase the chances of successfully completing a degree—the faculties develop appropriate measures and design their onboarding classes.
Given the wide range of possibilities, the Library+ provides counseling on the various methods and topics, supports implementation, and connects internal and external training and information offerings.
Materials from an initial workshop discussion on the onboarding class can be found in ILIAS:

Rewards Program
Bonus points offer an opportunity to motivate students to acquire or develop skills that enhance their ability to succeed in their studies and improve the quality of their academic work. These include, for example, courses in academic writing and research, learning methods and time management, or AI skills. Bonus points are awarded at the module level but are not integrated into the module in terms of timing or content. By successfully completing predetermined activities, students earn bonus points that are credited toward their final grade for the module and can improve their overall grade.
The Library⁺
- provides counseling on this topic and assists with implementation,
- maintains a list of courses eligible for bonus points,
- creates informational materials for students,
- maintains close contact with internal university providers such as the Career Service or the Writing Center
- and much more.
Please feel free to contact us for detailed information.

Digital Campus
The Digital Campus is an interactive platform created by students for students—a place to settle in, get to know one another, exchange ideas, and serve as a “home” for study groups. Integrated into ILIAS, the Digital Campus is a secure space for all students; lecturers and staff do not have access to it. However, as a lecturer, you can still make use of this virtual space—for example, by having tutors lead study groups or by having StuBen (student academic advisors) offer counseling.
