Seven questions for Sebastian Stammschroer (née Michalske)

Veröffentlicht

Which company do you work for?
A few days after completing my Master's degree, I started working as a calculation engineer in the aviation sector at B/E Aerospace Fischer GmbH.
Nowadays, however, I work as a project manager for development projects, research and development at SCHROTH Safety Products GmbH.

What is your job?
My tasks include, for example, the responsible management of national and international development projects as well as ensuring that the qualitative, economic and time-related project targets are met. In addition, coordinating project activities and resources and ensuring constant coordination with the faculties.

What does your typical working day look like?
First of all, I check new e-mails and sort tasks into my to-do list. Without a to-do list, I wouldn't have such good time and self-management. Then I check the current tasks and work through them. At the same time, I push ongoing project activities and plan new projects from A to Z. Apart from that, I have several meetings a day - both with customers and with my international project teams to check on progress. My work is very varied.

What moments do you particularly appreciate in your job?
I appreciate the family-like company with respectful and friendly interaction in all departments. I also appreciate the private small talks alongside my actual work and the constantly changing daily routine with ever-changing tasks as a project manager.

What is your superpower?
I would describe my good coordination skills, my technical know-how, my analytical way of thinking and my good employee management and motivation as superpowers.

How did your career start go and what is your tip for our students?
My career start went perfectly. I applied for jobs one to two months before I graduated and only received acceptances. I was therefore in the fortunate position of being able to choose a company. My colloquium was at the end of September 2019 and I signed my employment contract on the first of October.
My tip: A very well-structured application with a CV and cover letter is a must-have. But even more important is how you present yourself in digital and face-to-face interviews.

What is your best memory from your time studying at Fachhochschule Dortmund?
I have many fond memories of my time studying at Fachhochschule Dortmund.
But by far the best memory is the award I received after completing my Master's degree. It was the award from the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts' sponsoring association as the best graduate in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 2019/2020. From that moment on, I realized how much the hard work and commitment at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts had paid off.
